The story
Sc. 01 · the brief
Gamified, beautiful, affirming: never all three.
Bible apps that teach like Duolingo exist; so do beautiful ones, and so do affirming ones, never all three at once. A directory of 508 reviewed Christian apps flags none as LGBTQ-affirming. holybibl is the missing one: Christianity made easy, for anyone told to change before they could come in. And the verse is never behind a paywall.
Sc. 02 · what we built
Five minutes a day, 1,189 squares long.
The app is a daily streak and a path of 1,189 squares, one for each chapter of the Bible. A lesson is one passage quoted word for word, a plain explanation, one question and a one-line prayer. The first path, The Whole Story in 30 Days, is complete. Around it stands a shelf of 16 print-ready products, from a booklet of night psalms to a wedding liturgy.
Sc. 03 · how we built it
Every verse is looked up, never written.
Only the Berean Standard Bible is used (public domain since 2023) after the other translations failed on licence. A lesson's passage is a verbatim lookup in a local copy, never model output, and a check re-reads every quote in the books against it, character for character. Plain Node with no dependencies; PDFs rendered by headless Chrome.
Sc. 04 · the detail
The app keeps one key and no secrets.
Progress lives in a single browser-storage key (nothing else, nowhere else) and the app makes no network calls. That is one of eight house laws: no one's faith or orientation is stored. Another bans invented social proof, which is why an early mock-up's “people reading now” never shipped.
Sc. 05 · where it stands
Built in one night, not yet open.
The app, the store pages and the shelf were built in one night, 28–29 September 2026; nothing has been published yet. Titles, prices and the store's home are still open decisions. Each future lesson is planned as one document that serves as video script, booklet page and book chapter at once.
